Mombasa
We are the Dawoodi Bohra community of Mombasa
With over a century of deep-rooted history in Mombasa, the Dawoodi Bohra community has built a legacy grounded in faith, unity, and entrepreneurship in the scenic coastal city. Early records indicate the presence of 120 members in the 1870s which has grown to 684 families today.
Many Dawoodi Bohras are active across diverse professions and industries, contributing significantly to Mombasa’s economic landscape. Community members own businesses in construction, glass, hardware, and stationery, as well as various service sectors. They also champion initiatives for the benefit of the larger community by collaborating with civic authorities to plant trees and organise clean-up activities under the banner of Project Rise.
Community members reside across Mombasa’s neighbourhoods, including Old Town, Bondeni, Mwembe Tayari, Kizingo, Ganjoni, Bombolulu, and Nyali.
