Kampala

We are the Dawoodi Bohra community of Kampala

The Dawoodi Bohra community in Kampala, relatively new but rapidly growing, was established in 2012. Although Dawoodi Bohras have lived in Uganda since the 1970s, many families left during the period of political upheaval.

Currently, approximately 120 Dawoodi Bohra families reside in Kampala. Most live in Bukasa, near the Burhani Masjid, with others in surrounding neighbourhoods and a few in Luweero, 60 kilometres from the city. Community members work in various fields, including construction, building materials, general trading, fabrication, and agro-processing. Their entrepreneurial spirit has led Dawoodi Bohras to become pioneers in areas such as gas cylinder manufacturing, large-scale affordable housing, and herbal medicine production in Uganda.

The community maintains strong relations with both local and national Ugandan authorities. The inauguration of Burhani Masjid in 2018 marked a significant milestone with the President of Uganda attending the ceremony, reflecting the community’s integration and goodwill with Ugandan society.

Known for their distinct attire and devotion to community service, the Dawoodi Bohras are committed to ethical business practices and regarded in Ugandan society as peaceful, patriotic, and forward-thinking members. As proud Ugandans, they continue to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economy and social fabric, building a legacy rooted in integrity and civic engagement.
